The prominent Czech composer, Jiří Gemrot, dedicated his Concertino for Cello, Piano and Orchestra to cellist Jeremy Findlay and to pianist Elena Braslavsky in 2004. The following year Braslavsky and Findlay premiered it with the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Charles Olivieri-Munroe. In January 2007 they performed it four times with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the Ichiro Saito. One of those performances was recorded live by the Czech Radio (listen below).
The Concertino uniquely features both cello and piano as solo instruments with a Beethoven sized orchestra. It is an exciting and innovative piece full of energy, colors and compelling 5/8 rhythms in the finale. The Concertino is in three movements and lasts twenty minutes.
Future performances of the Concertino are being planned with Braslavsky and Findlay together with orchestras including the Camerata Salzburg (at the Prague Spring Festival), Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss (Germany), the North Czech Philharmonic, and other orchestras in the Czech Republic, Poland and Japan.
